Make the Beaver Choice

It has a silly name, but Tempe's Scandinavian eatery Beaver Choice doesn’t require you to take it seriously — only that you love to eat and enjoy the absurd friendliness of its staff.

Other than Ramen: Microwave Madness

This month my mind is on “Microwave Madness” instead of March Madness as I continue to sample different microwavable frozen entrees. This week I tried Lean Cuisine’s Angel Hair Pomodoro, which is angel hair pasta in a chunky marinara sauce with Parmesan cheese.

Live and Otherwise: Arizona's Own Coachella

My heart thudded painfully in my chest when I heard those dreaded few words. Those two words had destroyed my dreams for making this the first year I would attend the auspicious event known as the Coachella Music Festival. Sold out? My mind could barely comprehend that this infamous concert had sold out as quickly as it had—only a mere week after tickets went on sale.

Palm Walk Runway: The Flatform

Now, many of us cannot necessarily wear high-arched, platform high-heels all of the time, so that is why there is a new trend of shoes called the flatform?

Urban Beans' food and coffee are sure to make studying more delicious. Photo by Chelsea Brown.

Downtown Dispatch: The Urban Setting of Urban Beans

Off of 7th Street in Phoenix is a quaint coffee shop that is dedicated to using local products, and having a nice space where people can mingle, sip coffee, and play Scrabble together. Urban Beans, located in midtown Phoenix, offers an array of breakfast and lunch sandwiches, along with locally made pastries and coffee drinks that are sure to settle anyone’s craving for caffeine. When I first went to Urban Beans back in January, the first thing I noticed was the size of the room, which is downright large compared to most coffee shops in the downtown area.

Losing My Religion

For one SPM writer, ending her vegetarian diet felt like abandoning a religion. For years, she felt secretly rebellious for denying meat and going against the cultural norm. Now she just feels like a sell out.

Non-Required Reading: How Zack Snyder Might Ruin Everything

So Zack Snyder has been pegged to do the new Superman movie. Yes, after four Christopher Reeve movies, one Bryan Singer movie to supposedly fit in with that canon, and several solid cartoon movies, we’re starting all over again. To be honest, I don’t mind it. Here I go losing a nerd-credibility point, but I have never seen any of the Reeve Super-movies.

Happy Hour Spots You Can Rail To

If you want to save your hard-earned cash but still be able to eat and drink out, there's good news. The ASU Tempe and Downtown campuses are both light rail stops away from some of the Valley's best happy-hour spots.

Downtown Dispatch: MADE's Mini-Forest Craft Night

Lately I’ve been noticing these cute indoor planters on various blogs and home décor websites. They are generally made from a glass, see-through jar or vase (lid included occasionally) with a mixture of peat moss, grass, rocks, and dirt placed nicely inside.

Lessons from 1954

Take a trip back to 1954, when ASU’s hope of continuing its baseball team was about as likely as the 2011 team going to the postseason. But for some former Sun Devils, losing was just not an option.

Inspiration, Recycled

If you had to pick a color to repaint the Herberger Institute building this year, green may be a good choice. That is, if the paint contained no materials harmful to the environment. Oh, and if you recycle the paintbrush, too, and dedicate the project to a social action group.
