ASU softball had a chance to step away from Pac-12 competition for a week but continued a high level of play with a devastating sweep over a Southern Mississippi team that didn’t score a run the entire series.

ASU softball won its second game against Southern Mississippi Saturday to clinch the series behind another powerful pitching display from senior Dallas Escobedo that kept the Golden Eagles (22-27) scoreless for a 6-0 ASU victory.
ASU softball (40-7, 13-4 Pac-12) had a week off from Pac-12 play and took on Southern Mississippi Friday in a landslide 8-0 victory led by senior pitcher Mackenzie Popescue's five-inning no-hitter.
ASU softball is back home at Alberta B. Farrington Softball Stadium on Friday for a week off from Pac-12 competition as it takes on Southern Mississippi after playing six straight weeks against conference competitors.
ASU softball traveled to Washington for a planned three-day series but was only able to play a doubleheader Friday because of rain cancelations on the first and third days of the weekend. The Sun Devils took both a win and loss and left 1-1 on the series.
It will be a change from the dry heat to the damp Seattle air for ASU softball as it looks forward to its conference series against Washington.
