Graphic design junior Scott Biersack told us his story of a tough childhood that eventually became the impetus for much of his art today. Biersack specializes in graphic design and hand-lettering, often using chalk for some of his pieces. You may have seen some of Biersack's art on the chalkboard inside Coor Hall. We had the pleasure of witnessing him in action as he drew the State Press logo for all of ASU to see. You can find more of his work at www.scottbiersack.com.

ASU head coach Todd Graham talks about ASU football's summer workout results
For the past 14 years, Ryan Platt has spent the majority of his time going out on the water to practice what he loves most - wakeboarding. When Platt came to ASU in 2010, one of his first concerns was whether or not the school had a wakeboarding team. After finding out there wasn't a competitive team on campus, Platt decided to take it upon himself to form the Wake Devils. Since then, the club's team has grown from just a few members to over 30 competitive riders. Because the team is a sport club, it receives limited funding. Despite the challenges presented by an expensive sport, the Wake Devils have quickly become a successful and prominent collegiate wakeboarding team. Platt and the Wake Devils competed in the Empire Collegiate Wakeboarding Championship at Lake Las Vegas on Apr. 17-19. The tournament consisted of seven other teams from around the country that went head-to-head against each other. The Wake Devils beat their opponents in the first two rounds, knocking out Rollins College and Sacramento State to advance to the final. Despite losing key rider RJ Pabon to a knee injury in the semifinals, the Wake Devils rallied and defeated the University of Southern Florida for the Collegiate Wakeboarding Championship. Although the riders said a national championship is an amazing feat, they agree that there isn't a much better feeling than just being out on the water with friends who all share a love for wakeboarding.
The Red Bull Chariot Race was brought to Arizona State University for the first time Firday April 26. Red Bull set up a racetrack lined with hay bales in the parking lot of Devil’s Advocate Bar and Grill where teams of three timed how quickly they could make laps in their make-shift chariots. More than six teams entered chariots at the race and the ASU’s own Wake Devils team came out on top beating out the Red Bull pro athlete team which included surfer Jamie O’Brien. Although the competition was open to anyone, almost all of the teams entered were ASU students. Cronkite Team was made up of Downtown Phoenix Campus students Adrian Martinez, Keith O’Rourke and Eddie Griffin. The team was named after the Walter Cronkite School that all of the teammates study at. The team put together their chariot Friday and made it to the finals round before finally being eliminated.
