Phoenix celebrates, honors the dead

Community members gathered at Steele Indian School Park on Sunday to celebrate the 4th annual Dia de los Muertos Phoenix festival. The festival blends traditional Mexican culture with Southwestern flavor, celebrating and honoring dead loved ones through vibrant music, dancing, food and a candlelight procession.

Kickstart the Arts highlights the importance of arts education

The inaugural Kickstart the Arts event took place over the weekend at ASU’s West campus. The event, designed by ASU sophomore Richard Morris, was planned with the purpose of showing students and children the importance of embracing the arts individually and within the community. The event included everything from crafts and creative writing, to screen printing, dancing and mural painting.

Downtown Phoenix celebrates 30 years of arts and culture

The Phoenix Arts and Culture Commission celebrated its 30th anniversary this weekend by closing off Monroe Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets for numerous music, dance, art and theater performances. Around 100 Phoenix-based organizations participated in the event, including Cyphers: The Center for Urban Arts, Phoenix Conservatory of Music and Rosie's House, as well as numerous individual performers.

7th Street Bridge Turns into Giant Slip and Slide

This weekend thousands of people walked by the 7th Street bridge with colorful floaties. The Urban Slide made a quick stop in Downtown Phoenix. The 1000 foot slip and slide was held on South 7th Street and East Jefferson. The Urban Slide is as big as four football fields put together.

ASU students from all locations gathered together for one of the university's longest standing traditions: white washing the A on A mountain. The event is an opportunity to start each year with a clean slate and to experience the culture, pride and tradition of Sun Devil Football.

ASU club sets sail on Tempe Town Lake

Look out over Tempe Town Lake on Friday or Saturday afternoon and you're bound to see a couple of sailboats. If you've seen the boats, chances are you've seen members of the ASU Sailing Club. The club has been around for 12 years now, and started as an outlet for adaptive sailing. It has since grown, and now represents ASU at competitions along the West coast.
