Barrett hits the slopes

In early February, ASU Downtown Barrett students got a chance to close their textbooks and relieve some stress on the ski slopes at Sunrise Ski Resort in Greer, Arizona.

Barrett Student Services Coordinator Kierstin Berg organized the turnaround event because she says it’s important for students to get involved.

“I’m a big proponent of student engagement because I think that the more involved students are on campus, the more successful they are here at the university,” she says. “By getting involved and participating in student events or student organizations, they are building a support group.”

For some students, this was their first time skiing.

Nursing freshman Miguel Chavira is one of these students.

“This was my first time ever going on a ski trip, and it was just great to be able to do it with people from Barrett,” he says. “It was really nice to get a break from school and be able to relieve some stress.”

Taking advantage of a group rate, students paid $40 for their lift ticket and rental equipment. The price also included their choice of a ski or snowboard lesson.

If you didn’t go this time around, you are in luck. This ski trip is an annual tradition for the Barrett community.
