ASU freshman guard Joson Sanon has committed to St. John's to play under head coach Rick Pitino. This season, the Red Storm took home the Big East Championship and lost in the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.
Sanon reclassified and came out of high school a year early to play at UA but eventually flipped his commitment to ASU.
The 3-point specialist averaged just under 12 points, 3.4 rebounds and one assist per game in the 2024-25 season. Sanon shot 42.2% from the floor and 36.9% from deep in his freshman campaign. His numbers improved late in the season, averaging 18.8 points per game in his last five.
Despite Sanon's stellar play, ASU finished the season at 13-19 and won just four Big 12 games. The Sun Devils also lost their final nine home games.
Head coach Bobby Hurley is expected to return to Tempe next season for the 2025-26 season, the last on his current contract. Hurley is set to lose his top five scorers from last season as Sanon transfers and others leave due to graduation and conduct issues.
