Senior guard BJ Freeman has been dismissed from the ASU men's basketball team just weeks before the Big 12 Tournament, according to Michelle Gardner of The Arizona Republic.
Freeman is "no longer on the team due to detrimental conduct," said an ASU Spokesperson.
On Feb. 1, Freeman had an altercation with University of Arizona guard Caleb Love that led to both being ejected. In the following game against Kansas State, he had 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists, but then wouldn’t play against Oklahoma State just days later because of a one-game suspension due to another conduct issue deemed detrimental to the team.
The Milwaukee transfer was usually a positive on the court throughout a strugglesome season, providing a real spark whenever the Sun Devils needed it. He averaged 13.7 points per game, leading the team in scoring while grabbing 3.9 rebounds per game. Over the five games prior to this dismissal, he excelled, averaging 18.4 points per game, despite the current six-game losing streak.
The Sun Devils' already small rotation grows even smaller and they’ll likely have to rely on some deep-bench guys to step up.
In a season that already feels lost, the dismissal only adds to what has been a difficult last three months for the Sun Devils.
