ASU and Sun Devil football head coach Kenny Dillingham have agreed to a five-year contract extension that will put him near the top of the Big 12 head coaching salaries, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Tuesday.
The second-year head coach led the Sun Devils to the College Football Playoff and was rewarded for his efforts the night before the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. The deal has incentives that can extend up to 10 years, according to ESPN.
The new deal is a commitment to the future of ASU football. It will come with an addition of 20 more football scholarships next season as NCAA rosters will expand to 105 players.
Dillingham was on the low end of Big 12 coaching salaries with at $4.05 million base salary. However, he earned more than $2.5 million in bonuses after ASU secured a conference title and an 11-2 record to put him on the higher end of the Big 12.
ASU has been slowly building the base for Dillingham's tenure, adding over 45% to the 2024 football operations budget compared to 2023. The Sun Devils also extended offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo and defensive coordinator Brian Ward.
Following the extension announcement, ASU was set to play in the Peach Bowl against Texas on New Year's Day.
