ASU redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jordyn Tyson (0) dives toward the red zone against UCF on Saturday Nov. 9, 2024 in Tempe.

Redshirt sophomore receiver Jordyn Tyson will miss the Big 12 championship game and is out indefinitely due to an upper-body injury, per ASU head coach Kenny Dillingham

"Jordyn's going to be out indefinitely, unfortunately," Dillingham said. "I don't want to give a complete three, four-month out timetable, but he's going to be out indefinitely."

The injury happened late in the third quarter of the Territorial Cup against the University of Arizona on Saturday. Tyson was tackled to the ground after making a catch and was visibly in pain.

The redshirt sophomore was taken to the medical tent with trainers holding his left arm in place. He’d later exit and was seen later in the game on the sideline with a sling on. Tyson had eight receptions for 143 yards and one touchdown before exiting.

Tyson emerged this season as the Sun Devil's clear No. 1 receiver. He accumulated 1,101 yards on 75 receptions for 10 touchdowns. He had 38% of targets for the Sun Devil offense with the majority of his success coming in the back half of the season.

The next closest receiver to Tyson is redshirt senior Xavier Guillory with 31 total targets. Guillory has stepped up in the last two weeks, hauling in two long touchdown passes.

Graduate receiver Melquan Stovall, redshirt junior tight end Chamon Metayer and redshirt senior Jake Smith may see more opportunities in Tyson's absence. Metayer already has five touchdown receptions on the season.

"(Tyson) demands two people to cover him," Dillingham said. "If people don't have to demand two people, they can load the box. So you got to find more creative ways to win those one-on-one matchups."

Whoever steps up, it’ll be hard to replace the amount of production that Tyson has had the entire season. The Sun Devils will take on Iowa State in the Big 12 championship on Saturday.
