An ASU student was found dead inside a garage in Chandler alongside a 17-year-old male, on Tuesday at approximately 3 a.m. according to an email statement from the Chandler Police Department.

Chandler police discovered the two teens after doing a welfare check requested by individuals familiar with the deceased, according to the Chandler PD statement. The police were originally on routine patrol near North Arizona Avenue and East Ray Road before they were asked, the department said.

The families of the two teens reported them missing Sunday night and Monday, eventually tracking them down through their cell phones and text messages to the garage. Officials arrived at the scene early Tuesday morning, according to an article by AZ Central

The preliminary investigation suggests the deaths were accidental in nature, according to Chandler PD. However, detectives must wait for the Medical Examiner's Office to determine the death, the statement said.

The student, Romeo Elias Alvarez, was a freshman studying biological sciences, according to a University spokesperson.

"Arizona State University extends its deepest condolences to Romeo's family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time," the University spokesperson said in an email.

The incident is still under investigation.
