The State Press published its seventh update to its ASU salary database. The update includes the reported salaries and positions of nearly 19,000 University employees in 2023. These employees include deans, coaches, professors, leaders of ASU's enterprises, marketing strategists, academic advisors and more.

Since 2017, we have published updates to the database to provide transparency on how much employees make at ASU. The data is a public record obtained each year from the University, but the database and any subsequent analysis and reporting is originally created by staff members at The State Press.

We use this data to investigate possible pay gaps, salary increases of top University leadership and to help analyze contract extensions, among other data-driven coverage. Our goal is to continue finding more stories that shed light on pay across all salaried employees at the University.

Previous analysis from this data led to the discovery of a pay gap among University deans, as well as the intricacies of contract extensions for professors and athletics staff. The State Press is working to audit the 2023 salaries at this time.

We cover stories with high impact that serve the vast, ever-changing ASU community. Submit any questions, concerns or trends you see in the database using the Google Form below. Email us at execed.statepress@gmail.com if you have questions about the methods we use to publish the database or if something needs to be corrected.

Executive editor Alexis Heichman contributed to the reporting of this article. The original database code was created by Chuck Dries and James Quigley. The coding update for this year was completed by Rubyanne Moley.
