BREAKING: Tempe Police respond to domestic violence incident at University Pointe near ASU

City of Tempe police officers respond to domestic violence incident at University Pointe apartments on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024, in Tempe.


The Tempe Police Department responded to a domestic violence incident at apartments near Lemon Street and Rural Road on Sunday, according to a LiveSafe alert sent out to the University community that afternoon. 

The incident involved a man allegedly striking another man with an ice pick, according to an emailed statement from Tempe PD.  

When law enforcement arrived on the scene, the suspect did not leave the apartment until negotiating with the police, according to the statement.

A witness said the incident occurred at University Pointe, a student housing center across from the Tempe campus.

Tempe PD said there were no injuries that required transportation. The investigation for this incident is still ongoing and charges are pending.

According to a second LiveSafe alert sent around 3:50 p.m., the area was clear for students and community members to return to normal activity.
