ASU student found drowned in Tempe Town Lake

Police recovered the body of Elijah Province on Thursday morning

Elijah Province, a 20-year-old ASU student, drowned in Tempe Town Lake on Wednesday, August 14, according to the Tempe Police Department. His body was recovered the following Thursday morning.

Witnesses reported Province entered the water around 9:30 p.m. without returning to the surface, according to FOX 10 Phoenix. Officials and police were alerted, and a search was conducted with an SRP water drone. 

The drone was first to locate Province, and divers would later recover the body around 9 a.m the next day.


The incident continues to be investigated by the Tempe Police Department as a suicide. University officials were contacted, but no statement has been made. The case is within Tempe Police jurisdiction.
