ASU water polo flourished into a top-four ranked program this year, playing 17 of its 21 regular season games at home. In May, the team tied Stanford for third place at the National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championships.
In the quarterfinals, ASU led Michigan 5-1 at halftime and sent the Wolverines home after a 9-5 victory. The win was the program's first-ever NCAA quarterfinal victory. The team has two previous NCAA appearances.
USC defeated ASU 10-4 in the semifinals. The Sun Devils finished the season with a 14-12 record, with half of its losses coming at the hands of the Trojans.
Bente Rogge earned both First-Team All-Tournament and All-America honors. Amira Van Buren received Second-Team All-America honors, and Chelsea Karimazondo and Luca Petovary received honorable mentions. The number of players who received All-America honors matched the previous ASU record of four.
Correction: Five seniors departed the water polo team, including starters Chelsea Karimazondo and Bente Rogge. The video wrongly states at 3:10 that 6 seniors departed including Amira Van Buren, who did not leave the team due an extra year of eligibility after the cancellation of the 2020 season.
