ASU track and field secures 8 first-place finishes at GCU Outdoor Invitational

The Sun Devils captured the most first-place finishes in a single meet this season

ASU track and field secured eight first-place finishes in its first outdoor meet of the season at the GCU Outdoor Invitational on Wednesday in Phoenix. 

Senior Katie Eidem secured a first-place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.74 seconds. 

In the men's 1,500 meters, junior Dylan Kingston finished in second place with a time of 4:02.05, and junior Joseph Dicke finished in third place with a time of 4:03.79. Sophomore Chris Keeley secured fourth place in the event with a time of 4:04.95, and junior Nick Shampoe took fifth place with a time of 4:09.59. 

Senior Averie Brook secured fourth place in the women's pole vault by clearing the 3.50-meter height on her third attempt but failing to clear the 3.65-meter height in all three of her attempts. 

In the men's pole vault, sophomore Harrison Huhn secured third place by clearing a height of 4.60 meters. 

Senior Josephine Anokye secured first place for the Sun Devils in the women's 100 meters with a time of 11.90 seconds, while sophomore Taryn Hankins took second place with a time of 12.35 seconds. Sophomore Garrett Shedrick finished in fifth place in the men's 100 meters with a time of 10.92 seconds. 

In the men's 800 meters, freshman Garrett McSheffrey finished in fourth place with a time of 1:59.19. 

Senior Emily Gallegos-Francksen secured fourth place in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:23.34, and sophomore Ava Shackell secured fifth in the event with a time of 2:24.66.

The Sun Devils continued to perform well in the shot put, as graduate student Jorinde van Klinken secured first place in the event, throwing a distance of 16.31 meters.

Redshirt junior Turner Washington secured first place in the men's shot put, throwing a distance of 21.07 meters, and redshirt senior Ian Schulz secured second place, throwing for a distance of 17.36 meters. 

In the women's 200 meters, Anokye finished in first place with a time of 23.97 seconds, while sophomore Ma'Kayla Dickerson finished in second with a time of 24.42 seconds. 

Shedrick finished in fifth place in the men's 200 meters with a time of 21.80 seconds.

Dickerson secured first place for the Sun Devils in the women's 400 meters with a time of 56.03 seconds.

In the women's long jump, fifth-year senior Amanda Carty secured first place for the Sun Devils, jumping for a distance of 6.04 meters. Eidem secured fourth place in the event, jumping for a distance of 5.52 meters. 

Freshman Alexander Gonzalez finished fourth in the men's long jump, recording a distance of 6.69 meters. 

In ASU's final event of the day, the women's 4x400 relay team defeated GCU's team and earned first place in the event, finishing with a time of 3:46.94. 

ASU will compete next on Feb. 5 at the Arkansas Qualifier in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
