Isabella Fredrickson and Cristina Taylor practice their routine from the belly dancing class Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020 in Sun Devil Hall on the Tempe campus.

Two students discussed the dance classes ASU offers and how those classes have empowered them to express their bodies more freely.

Isabella Fredrickson, a freshman majoring in journalism and mass communications, spoke about connecting with her culture through dance in the Philippine American Student Association at ASU. She also takes part in both hula dancing and belly dancing courses with Cristina Taylor. Taylor, a freshman studying philosophy, has a background in Zumba, barre and dance workout classes. She is currently training to apply to be a grind instructor at ASU. Both students talked about how dance provides them an outlet to celebrate their culture and confidence.
