ASU softball started its final regular season series by losing to Oregon State 1-0 — a tough game between the two Pac-12 rivals.
Defense ruled the game and there were as many hits as innings, seven, on both sides.
The Sun Devils redshirt pitcher, junior Kelsey Kessler, gave up four hits and one run. However, Kessler also threw 10 strikeouts against the Beavers, which carried the Sun Devils through the end of the game.
Although the Sun Devils played well on defense, their offence was a different story.
The team got one hit right in the beginning of the game, but it took four innings afterwards to get another.
Frequently, the ball went to the outfield, and the Beavers would be there to make the play.
Oregon State faced similar issues, butmade enough plays to set themselves up for the win during the bottom of the seventh inning.
With two outs and a runner on second, redshirt junior Christie Langlois got a double at bat, which led to an RBI by freshman Riely Gregoire, ending the game.
The 30-23 Sun Devils will have another crack at the 29-18-1 Beavers this week, facing them again Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14.
