Following a close game in which the Sun Devils carried the lead until the seventh inning, ASU baseball lost to the University of San Diego 6-4 in a game that went into extra innings.
The Sun Devils began the game well offensively, scoring two runs in the first and third innings by juniors Sebastian Zawada and David Greer.
On the defensive side, the Sun Devils also only gave up two hits up until the fifth inning — seeming like the game would be another blowout win for the Sun Devils.
However, USD had other plans.
In the fifth inning, ASU gave up three runs and three hits, which were as many hits as the Sun Devils got in innings one through four. An error by the Sun Devils in the seventh inning turned the game into a tie ball game as well, taking away the hot start the Sun Devils had created.
From the fifth inning to the 10th, the Sun Devils only scored two hits.
Meanwhile, USD took the game over in the bottom of the 10th, scoring a home run at the end of the game to make the score 6-4.
The Sun Devils will face Pac-12 rival UCLA on Friday, May 20 in Los Angeles for a three-game series.
