ASU softball secured a big 11-1 win against the Utah State Aggies to start the season off strong.
The Sun Devils showed off their bats all game with a total of 15 hits. Senior second baseman Nikki Girard had two hits for the game and two RBIs.
Senior left fielder Abby Spiel went (3-3) with one RBI.
Freshman third baseman Taylor Becerra had an eventful first game as a Sun Devil. Becerra went (2-3) with a double and a single.
A big three-run home run to deep right center field for sophomore pinch hitter Nichole Chilson helped the Sun Devils continue their momentum to a 10-1 lead at the bottom of the third.
Not only was the offense producing for the Sun Devils, the defensive side also anchored down, only allowing one run. Sophomore pitcher Breanna Macha started off in the circle for the Sun Devils.
Macha pitched the first three innings for the Sun Devils before sophomore pitcher Dale Ryndak came into the game to help secure a win.
Macha produced some heat on the rubber, with a total of 3 strikeouts only gave up one run for the Aggies.
Sophomore pitcher Dale Ryndak stepped in on the rubber for the Sun Devils at the start of the fourth inning.
Ryndak did not allow any more runs on the board, which helped secure a 11-1 mercy rule win for the Sun Devils.
ASU faces off against San Jose State at 7:00p.m. at Farrington Stadium for their second game in the Kajikawa Classic.
