ASU wrestling (7-6) will travel to Orem, Utah, to face the Utah Valley Wolverines (3-7) this Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Last time out for the Sun Devils: Iowa State
The Sun Devils got the upset win against No. 14 Iowa State last Friday defeating the Cyclones 23-18. The duel was full of highs and lows.
The low point was during the second match of the night when 165-pound sophomore Jacen Peterson was pinned by redshirt senior Tanner Weatherman in the second round.
The highest point was when 197-pound redshirt senior Josh DaSilveira flipped his opponent to the ground and got the pin with 24 seconds remaining in the first period to send Wells Fargo Arena into a frenzy.
With the last bout of the night, 147-pound star Senior Matt Kraus put the stamp on the win by earning a hard-fought 5-4 victory.
Next up for the Sun Devils: Utah Valley
The Sun Devils are riding their momentum into Utah Valley to grapple with the Wolverines. Utah has had a bumpy season thus far, with two straight dual meet losses against CSU Bakersfield and Stanford, and two middle of the pack finishes in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and the Reno Tournament of Champions.
The high note of the Wolverines' season came on Nov. 28. They defeated Boise State 22-12 in a WAC clash. The Sun Devils faced BSU the week before, falling in a heartbreaking fashion 22-21.
Key matchup: 141 pounds, Mathers vs. Wilson.
ASU has been flying high lately, but the Wolverines have been low as a valley, creating some contrast in the teams' recent histories.
The matchup of the night will be when sophomore Robbie Mathers takes on former Sun Devil junior Trevor Wilson.
Wilson redshirted his first year at ASU before going 1-3 in the 133-pound weight class in the 2012-13 season. He then transferred to Utah Valley and has accumulated a 6-2 record this year.
On ASU's side of the mat, Mathers is coming off an emphatic performance against ISU. He helped swing momentum in ASU's favor and was a difference-maker in the upset, increasing his record to 14-9.
The Sun Devils will look to feed off his energy once again.
