Tempe Police reported the following incident Tuesday:

A Mesa man was arrested on Mill Avenue and 5th Street on suspicion of obstructing justice and marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession, according to a police report.

A uniformed bike officer noticed the man riding in front of him on a skateboard, according to the report. As the man rode by, the officer saw the man holding a rolled cigarette in his right hand and the officer could smell burning marijuana, police reported.

The man later threw something on the ground, according to the report.

The officer stopped the man in front of the Jack in the Box on Mill Avenue and asked him if they could talk, police reported.

The man got back on his skateboard and fled north on Mill Avenue, according to the report. The officer chased the man on his bicycle and finally stopped him at Mill Avenue and 5th Street, police reported.

During a search, the officer located a glass jar which smelled of marijuana and had marijuana residue on it in the man's belongings, according to the report. The officer also found a cigarette box containing white rolling papers similar to the ones he saw the man holding earlier and a clear bag with a usable quantity of marijuana, police reported.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see judge, according to the report.
