Tempe Police reported the following incident Thursday:

A 27-year-old Scottsdale man was arrested Aug. 29 on the 1300 block of West Elliot Road on suspicion of lying to police, narcotic drug possession and drug paraphernalia possession, according to a police report.

Officers originally contacted the man because of a suspicious-person call, police reported.

While the man told them he didn't have any weapons, the officers thought a bulge in his pants was suspicious, according to the report. It was a knife sharpener in his pocket, police reported.

Officers also found a cotton swab used for filtering heroin and heroin residue, which he said belonged to his girlfriend, according to the report.

The man had also been giving police the wrong name, police reported.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and released pending charges, according to the report.

Report compiled by Shelby Slade.
