Tempe Police reported the following incidents Thursday:
A 28-year-old Chandler woman was arrested on April 22 at the 1800 block of East Warner Road on suspicion of felony theft and prescription drug, narcotic and drug paraphernalia possession, according to a police report.
The woman was caught trying to steal a three-stone, 1.03-carat ring worth $4,800 from the Tempe E.D. Marshall Jewelers store, police reported.
She entered the store wearing her own silver ring and asked a jeweler to try on a few additional rings, police reported. With at least one stolen ring on her hand, a store employee saw the woman reach into her purse with both hands and take them out with only the woman's personal ring on her finger, according to the report.
The woman denied stealing the ring to the store employee who saw the exchange and the ring was finally discovered when police arrived and searched the woman's purse, according to the report.
In that search, an officer also found heroin, prescription Oxycodone and non-prescribed Seroquel, police reported.
The woman was transported to Tempe City Jail, where she was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.
A 44-year-old Upland, California man was arrested on April 15 at the 1400 block of West Southern Avenue on suspicion of narcotic drug and drug paraphernalia possession, according to a police report.
After seeing two open cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer in the cup holder, an officer searched the man's 1998 Toyota Camry and found heroin and heroin paraphernalia, police reported.
The man said in an interview with police that he started using heroin within the past week and that he usually smoked the substance by placing it on a paperclip, heating it up and inhaling the fumes, according to the report.
The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.
