Regardless of an accomplished freshman season and a now a new coach, Caneta will transfer.

Talented ASU swim and dive freshman breaststroker Jorie Caneta is transferring to Texas A&M for next season.

However, the decision may come as a bit of a surprise because of the Bob Bowman hiring on Friday.

Although Caneta has not spoken about it yet, the decision does not appear to be one made because of Bowman's hire, per a source. She made the decision to transfer before Bowman was hired and it was most likely about giving herself the best opportunity for her swimming career.

Texas A&M's women's swimming team was ranked No. 5 in CSCAA.org's final season polls in back in February. Pac-12 schools Cal and Stanford are No. 1 and No. 3, respectively, in the poll as well.

Regardless, ASU swim will lose a standout breaststroker with a bright future. She competed with and sometimes finished ahead of fellow breaststroker, senior Tory Houston, who was the other half of ASU's breaststroking tandem this past season.

Caneta, who is from Bakersfield, California, performed well against top competition this year, including nationally ranked Cal and Stanford. She finished first in the 100 breaststroke and second in the 200 breaststroke against Cal, while winning the 200 breaststroke against Stanford.

She was also a fourth of ASU's 200 medley relay "A" team that clocked in at 1:37.53 for the second-best time in program history at this past season's Pac-12 Championships.
