Freeman will finally have her chance to play professional softball

In the third inning against Boise State, senior Amber Freeman hit her fourth home run of the season. She was greeted by her Sun Devil teammates at home plate in celebration at Farrington Stadium on Feb. 20, 2015, in Tempe.

The 33 picks of the 2015 National Pro Fastpitch Draft were announced on Wednesday, and ASU softball senior catcher Amber Freeman was selected with the No. 11 pick by the USSSA Pride.

Oklahoma first baseman Lauren Chamberlain went No. 1 overall to the Pride, and her teammate Shelby Pendley was selected No. 2 overall by USSSA.

Chamberlain and Freeman are close friends after playing together on Team USA in 2013, and now they will have a chance to play together once again in professional softball this summer.

The NPF is a five team league, reinstated in 2004, consisting of the Akron Racers, Chicago Bandits, Dallas Charge, Pennsylvania Rebellion and the USSSA Pride (Florida).

Former No. 1 overall picks in the NPF include three players from ASU: Katie Burkhart, Kaitlin Cochran and Dallas Escobedo. Escobedo went No. 1 in last year's draft.

Freeman will finish out her senior season with ASU before joining the Pride.
