Underground Glories: Alternative tracks for the perfect study session

Underground Glories

For new artists, it can be difficult for their voices to stand out among the rest. The Gardiner Sisters and Dresses may not be well known but have a sound worth checking out. They're both great for relaxing study sessions or your next trip to the coffee house.

The Gardiner sisters are most known for the medley covers, "Home" and "Dirty Paws." The band is composed of sisters Mandi, Hailey and Allie. The sisters have dual citizenship in Canada and the U.S. and travel to share their music.

The Gardiner sisters have several harmonious covers on Spotify, released in 2013. The blend between pop, acappella and contemporary gives them a relaxing vibe. The group's most popular cover just took off, getting over 7 million hits.

The sisters aim to spread inspiration and joy to their listeners. Other popular covers include "Like I Can," "Happy" and "Don't Kill The Magic" featuring Austin Helms.

What makes the Gardiner sisters unique is their ability to create a unique twist on popular run of the mill songs. The harmonious combination of voices creates a softer identity for each song.

Keep an eye out for the girls' future covers as they grow more popular.

Another laid back option is the indie-pop duo known as Dresses. The two singers originated from Portland, Oregon and have released several singles. Jaren Ryan Maldonado and Timothy Heller met in 2011, and have been working together ever since.

Dresses released its first album, "Sun Shy," in 2013. They have toured incessantly since, even opening a few shows for piano-pop enthusiast Kate Nash.

Songs such as "Blew My Mind" and "Painting Roses" vary from relaxed harmonious duets to upbeat numbers with a more pop feel.

The newest song, "Lonely One," has over 600,000 streams on Spotify. "Dresses" is not as well known but continues to make catchy music, growing tremendously in the last two years as a newer musical group.
