Starbucks is going “mobile” this year at ASU. The University is one of three college campuses that will be piloting a new moving coffee truck.
Starbucks spokesperson Lily Gluzberg said in an email that the trucks at ASU, James Madison University and Coastal Carolina University will reflect a traditional Starbucks store, but will be on wheels to better reach students.
“Starbucks is excited about the opportunity to go 'mobile' on ASU’s campus and the opportunity to meet students throughout their day, at a location that is ideal for them,” Gluzberg said. “ASU has a vibrant student body on campus, and the community is very supportive of Starbucks, so introducing a mobile truck pilot at ASU seems like a natural fit.”
The truck will rotate between three different locations on campus throughout the day and can be found by using the hashtag #StarbucksTruck on Twitter to find the exact location.
“The Starbucks mobile truck is a full-service store and will move to various locations on campus throughout the day, making it easy for busy students to grab a snack or beverage,” Gluzberg said. “Customers can expect the same beverage quality and Starbucks experience as other licensed store locations.”
With the truck moving to various locations, many students are able to get a coffee or snack quickly rather than taking the time to walk to the nearest Starbucks on campus.
Marketing junior Matt Cowan said the mobility of the truck will simplify his routine so he doesn't have to go searching for coffee.
“Most of the time the one thing that keeps me from getting Starbucks is that the line is too long or it is out of the way that I am going,” said Cowan. “If I was going to walk out of class and see a Starbucks, I don’t see a reason why I wouldn’t pick one up.”
Cowan is not the only one looking forward to a more convenient Starbucks that can match their fast-paced schedules.
Exploratory junior Taylor Brewster fully supports Starbucks going mobile, because she said it makes it more accessible.
“I think that having the first mobile Starbucks will be amazing!" Brewster said. "It makes Starbucks more accessible for those people who don’t have time to go to the main locations. We have such a large campus that it is not always convenient to go to the actual locations, but with a truck, anywhere is now a possibility for Starbucks.”
