State Press Weekly: Stadium Renovation

Week of January 27 | Stadium Renovation

On January 14, President Crow announced plans for a three-year, $210 million renovation to the 55-year-old Sun Devil Stadium making it the school's largest financial undertaking since its founding in 1885. The project will be not be funded by student tuition but instead through private donors, bonds, and other stadium rights including a broadcast deal with the PAC-12. Additional revenue coming from concessions, sponsorships and public events leaves Treasury Vice President and CFO Morgan Olsen optimistic that the massive facelift will help take Sun Devil Athletics out of its $10 million annual debt. ASU already spends approximately $1 million on stadium upkeep. To make events enjoyable for all guests, and as per the Americans With Disabilities Act, $120 million will be focused on repairing structural issues to make Sun Devil Stadium more accessible to those with disabilities.
