“Workaholics” fans fear not. Although the Comedy Central original series may not be currently airing new episodes, the off-color workplace comedy's star Adam Devine has a new show that is sure to satisfy those who appreciate his brand of humor and those who haven’t seen his previous works.
“Adam Devine’s House Party,” which debuted on Oct. 24, is a combination of short narrative sketches and stand-up sets by various comedians.
“It’s a lot of fun,” Devine said. “I got to pick 24 of my favorite up-and-coming comedians and have them come out and do a set. There’s some great comics that are going to be on the show.”
Set to appear on the show are comics Adam Ray (“The Heat”), Ron Funches (“New Girl”), Josh Rabinowitz (“I Just Want My Pants Back”), and Andrew Santino (“The Office”). Each of the show’s eight episodes will feature three comics apiece.
“It’s a real good group of comedians,” Devine said. “They’re really funny people.”
Despite being excited for the show, Devine joked that he had no clue what Comedy Central was thinking when they gave him the go ahead for the show.
“I don’t know how I convinced Comedy Central to give me another show, a Hollywood mansion and a paycheck for hanging out with my friends,” Devine said. “I hope they have a good lawyer and the fire department on speed dial.”
Devine, 29, is best known for his role on “Workaholics.” The actor has played a multitude of roles in recent comedies, including a guest-starring spot on ABC's "Modern Family" and the 2012 musical comedy "Pitch Perfect." He is also a founding member of Mail Order Comedy, a sketch comedy group.
Mail Order Comedy was founded by Devine and his “Workaholics” co-stars Anders Holms, Blake Anderson, and Kyle Newacheck in 2006. The four friends first rose to stardom in 2008 when they starred in their own hidden camera series “Special Delivery,” which was produced for MySpace. The show featured the guys playing practical jokes on delivery drivers.
Mail Order Comedy won the Video of the Week Award on G4’s “Attack of the Show” in the same year, proving 2008 as a wide success for the group. The winning video, “Wizards Never Die” featured the guys dressed up as “gangster rapping Wizards.”
“Workaholics,” the show in which Devine and his co-stars are widely recognized, was picked up by Comedy Central in 2011 and is currently in its fourth season.
“The reception (to “Workaholics”) has been awesome,” Devine said. “It’s pretty overwhelming to be a part of something that so many people enjoy.”
Devine says that he hopes his new show will be as well received.
“I really do hope people enjoy it,” Devine said. “There’s a lot of talented comics set to appear and there’s some really funny scripted stuff. It’s really a fun show.”
“Adam Devine’s House Party” airs Thursdays at 11:30 p.m. on Comedy Central.
