While band members call the Valley of the Sun home, it is not surprising to see a concert announcement including the popular band. However, despite the fact that they are so prevalent in this scene, The Maine never fails to make each show feel like a brand new experience for its fans.
The Maine and Anberlin brought this amazing experience to Marquee Theater on Thursday for the second night of a co-headlining tour, featuring Lydia and From Indian Lakes.
Openers like Anberlin made the entire show more enjoyable as it rocked the house and really got people dancing. The crowd participation peaked when the band played their new single, “City Electric.”
Local indie rockers Lydia played a more relaxed set that had the audience swaying and singing along. Antelman’s unique voice powered through a mix of brand new tunes and very old school Lydia songs such as “This Is Twice Now,” a highlight moment of the evening.
From Indian Lakes, despite being newer to large tours, thoroughly impressed the crowd with singer Joey Vannuchi’s incredible vocal talent.
The band’s solid rock 'n' roll vibe was on display from the very first notes as the group ripped through several new songs, including the slightly eerie “Kennedy Curse.”
Frontman John O’Callaghan had all the girls in the front row screaming lyrics and declarations of love throughout the night as he delivered impressive vocals.
Midway through the set, The Maine brought out lead singer of Lydia, Leighton Antelman, onstage to the delight of the audience. Antelman’s and O’Callaghan’s vocals meshed perfectly, making a beautiful addition to the set.
The band continued with a great mix of old and new songs, including fan favorites “Can’t Stop Won’t Stop” and “Into Your Arms.”
The best moment of the entire show came when O’Callaghan threw up the ASU pitchfork and said “F-ck the Wildcats!” in response to one fan’s admission that she went to UA. This prompted screams and catcalls from some pretty diehard ASU fans and students.
The Maine closed its set with “Girls Do What They Want” and “Misery.”
