There’s something in the water in Waco, Texas, and college football teams other than Baylor may want to see if they can get themselves a bottle or two of it.
The Bears are doing things on offense that, despite my best efforts, I can’t even manage to replicate in my NCAA '14 video game.
Coach Art Briles is running an offense that averages 779.5 yards per game. Yes, you did read that correctly, nearly 800 yards per game.
To help attempt put that ridiculous number in perspective they’re averaging DOUBLE the yardage of 39 FBS teams.
The craziest thing is that they aren’t one dimensional in the way they do it. The Bears are a balanced offensive juggernaut, passing for 1,729 yards and rushing for 1,389. In fact, Baylor has five running backs with 100 or more yards this season.
With their absurdly frenetic offense, the Bears manage to score 70 points per game. They’re putting up the kind of points you expect to see on the hardwood, not the gridiron.
Briles is an offensive Beethoven orchestrating a dazzling offensive symphony that even the most novel college football fan can enjoy.
Take time to enjoy it before the season ends.
