The college lifestyle isn’t luxurious to say the least. For most of us it’s the first time being on our own, and between rent, food and textbooks, there isn’t much money left in the bank. So how do you stay stylish while being a college student on a budget? Here are five different tips that will help you do so without breaking the bank.
Tip 1: Affordable pieces vs. investment pieces
Always having a few investment pieces in your closet is a must. Splurge on a few essential items that fit you great and pair them with more affordable pieces and accessories.
Tip 2: Mix and match
Always buy clothing that you know you can wear multiple ways. Dress them up and dress them down. Wear the same skirt with multiple shirts to get completely different looks. Like I said in tip one, invest in pieces that will always be a staple part of your wardrobe.
Tip 3: Reorganize your closet
Look through what you already have! Sometimes things get pushed to the back of my closet, and I forget I own them. Reorganize your closet and find old treasures you can style. Also get rid of things that you will never wear again, and maybe even sell them to start a fund for new clothing.
Tip 4: Trade with friends
Have a clothing swap with friends to update your wardrobe and get rid of things you’re sick of. They might find some of your old threads as treasures and vice-versa!
Tip 5: Accessorize with bold pieces
Wear a bold necklace to make a plain T-shirt stand out. Statement pieces catch your eye and can be worn with multiple pieces of clothing, so invest in them!
