Students can expect more dining options this fall with the opening of Qdoba Mexican Grill at the Tempe campus Memorial Union.
Every semester the dining service provider on campus, Aramark, conducts a survey to find out what students want on campus, said Krystal Nelson, the district marketing manager for Aramark.
“We use this survey as well as feedback from students throughout the year on what types of foods they are looking for on campus,” she said.
Nelson said the survey indicated that students wanted Mexican food on campus.
“It made sense to bring this brand to campus,” Nelson said. “Qdoba Mexican Grill will be a long-standing partner of Sun Devil Dining.”
Psychology freshman Alicia Andrade took her first bite of one of Qdoba’s salads on Tuesday.
“It’s good,” she said.
Andrade said she is happy with the dining options and variety on campus, but wishes there were more options near the Palo Verde West residence hall where she lives.
Her meal plan allows for 14 meals a week, but she uses her Maroon and Gold dollars more often.
Accounting freshman Cortney Schiazzano thinks Qdoba’s Naked Burrito, which is served without the tortilla, is the best.
“The chicken is perfect,” Schiazzano said. “Their guacamole and salsa are also really good.”
Her friends Jenna Di Bernardo, a nursing freshman, and Ryann Villela, a communication freshman, agreed.
None of them had been to Qdoba before going to ASU.
Di Bernardo said Qdoba tastes a lot like Chipotle, which she likes. She lives in Taylor Place on the Downtown campus, but doesn’t like the food there.
Di Bernardo said she likes all of the different dining options the Tempe campus offers.
The dining halls close early, Schiazzano said, so “we end up coming (to the MU) more, because it is open later.”
