Diamondbacks baseball is back with the same comeback kid spirit we came to expect last season.
On Friday, the Diamondbacks won their season opening game against their division rivals, the San Francisco Giants.
With a crowd of more than 49,000 watching, the Diamondbacks dominated Giants ace Tim Lincecum and went on to win 5–4.
On Saturday, the Diamondbacks controlled the game early and gained momentum that led them to another 5–4 win.
But Sunday’s game was what I’m more used to as a Diamondbacks fan. It wasn’t pretty, but the team got the win.
After four innings, the Diamondbacks were losing 6–2, and the game looked bleak.
But after back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning by Ryan Roberts and Lyle Overbay, the Diamondbacks brought the score to 6–5 and gained new life.
Miguel Montero brought in the tying run, and Chris Young grounded out to third in the seventh inning, allowing Aaron Hill to cross home safely after an error by Giants catcher Buster Posey.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy was ejected for arguing the play, and the Diamondbacks gained control amid the turmoil to take the 7–6 victory two innings later.
The win wasn’t pleasant with five errors, but the Diamondbacks proved yet again they can come back to win games against all odds.
Plus, the D-backs’ record is 3-0 and the Giants’ is 0-3 — and that is a fantastic way to start the season.
