A quick walk around campus reveals a number of fashion faux pas, and far too often. I’d like to highlight these funny-but-too-familiar things that we see consistently.  Here’s a list of ASU’s most common fashion faux pas:

Wearing a backpack and carrying a purse

I see it every day: a girl carrying a backpack, but also feeling compelled to carry a purse. Is your backpack seriously so crammed with essentials that you find it necessary to also carry a purse? Or do you refuse to mix your school supplies with wallet and lip gloss? Whatever the reason, try to stick to one carrying case.

Uggs with jean shorts

The infamous Ugg boot tragedy. Girls, there is no weather condition that calls for fur-lined boots with shorts. Pick a season, and go with it. I understand if you’re leaving the gym and slip on Uggs in place of running shoes; in fact, I do it in the winter after spin class. But do not strut around campus in a denim skirt and the sheep-skinned shoes. Please.

Leggings as pants

I have seen my fair share of underwear shots from girls not realizing their leggings aren’t solid. Also, the garment wasn’t designed to be a pant  -- you can pull it off with long shirts or dresses, but not a crop top.

Risqué outfits for career fairs

I can assure you that no interviewer is going to take you seriously with six-inch stilettos and a mid-thigh mini pencil skirt. There are ways to look fashionable and cute but still conservative and respectable.

Matching head to toe

There is a brilliance behind color-complementing, but madness when someone matches head to toe. Just make sure you don’t wear one color for every garment.
