Swimmers break relay records in Pac-12 championships

Records have been rewritten for the ASU swim and dive program after the first two days of the Pac-12 Women’s Swimming and Men’s and Women’s Diving Championships.

On the first day of the championships, junior Shannon Landgrebe broke the school record for fastest split recorded in the 800-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:44.39.

Landgrebe’s quick finish as the No. 21 Sun Devils’ first leg in the relay also led the “A” team of Landgrebe, Cassie Morrice, Mattie Kukors and Tristin Baxter breaking the overall 800 free relay record as well in 7:04.91.

In the race before, the 200-medley relay team of Kelli Kyle, Rebecca Ejdervik, Caroline Kuczynski and Landgrebe posted a time of 1:37.63, the second-fastest finish in ASU history.

In the first set of individual finals on the second day, Morrice finished fifth in the 500 free, while Kuczynski placed eighth in the 200 IM.

Senior Elina Eggers finished third in the women’s 1-meter springboard, despite placing as the runner-up in the same event last year.

The Sun Devils are currently in sixth place of the nine-team field with two days and four sessions remaining.
