If you have been keeping up with the blog, you know that I may have a bit of an obsession for anything NBC. This love started when I was child and on Saturday nights I would religiously watch Saturday Night Live with my family. Unlike so many people of this generation, I have never found SNL to be “not funny anymore.” To this day, I am as die-hard a fan as ever.
Therefore, I think it only fitting to give a preview for what I believe to be a great month of Saturday Night Live. If you have been living under a rock, this month is filled with three really promising performances. On Nov. 5, Charlie Day of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will host his first episode with musical guest Maroon 5. It’s a surprise that he hasn’t hosted sooner, but I am thrilled nonetheless.
On Nov. 12, Emma Stone will host her second episode with musical guest Coldplay, and on Nov. 19, Jason Segal will host his first show with musical guest Florence + the Machine.
If you’re one of those people that haven’t watched lately, the musical guests are reasons alone to start watching. Coldplay and Florence + the Machine have both dropped new albums recently, and are sure to perform something off their new albums. It has already been confirmed that Maroon 5 will also do a performance with Gym Class Heroes’ Travie McCoy for the song “Stereo Hearts.” Coldplay’s newest album is “Mylo Xyloto,” with chart-toppers such as “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall” and “Paradise.” Florence + the Machine recently debuted her sophomore album called “Ceremonials,” featuring their latest single “Shake It Out.”
But back to the comedy…
Out of the three, I am most excited, and have the highest expectations, for Charlie Day. His chemistry with SNL actor Jason Sudeikis has already been established in Horrible Bosses, and I have a feeling his sense of humor will reach beyond the comedy seen in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I’m also particularly excited about Jason Segal. After his huge success in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, I was really surprised he hadn’t hosted sooner. Nevertheless, with his success in How I Met Your Mother, and new movie The Muppets being released soon, Segal’s timing couldn’t be better. As for Emma Stone, you wouldn’t expect her recent movies The Help, The Amazing Spiderman, and Crazy, Stupid, Love, to showcase her comedic talents, but her work in Easy A more than makes up for it.
Despite the much anticipated hosts, I am equally, if not more, excited to see what the cast-members produce for these episodes (possibly a Stefon Thanksgiving appearance?!
