Spark'd TV: Leslie Knope and the Gang

Parks and Recreation is by far the most underrated show on television. I guess what people are hung up on is the fact that they think it is a spin-off-type show of The Office. However, it is so much more. It is quintessential NBC humor coupled with a stellar cast. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, refer here, here, and here.

I was really excited about last week’s episode based around Ron Swanson. Not only did we get to see both of his ex-wives fight over him, but there was also a guest appearance by Paula Pell, one of my favorite SNL writers, who made a cameo as Ron’s mother. This battle over Ron includes Leslie getting wasted on Swanson Moonshine, Ron shaving his moustache (GASP!), and Tom continuing to mismanage his entertainment company.

Thursday’s episode was equally hilarious. With the release of Leslie’s new book, a guide to the city of Pawnee, Leslie fights to get a sticker for Joan’s Book Club. Shockingly, Leslie finds out she was not born in Pawnee, but born in the snobbier town called Eagleton. In a moment of realization, she says, “I wonder who else was born in Eagleton… Voldemort, probably.” Another equally important part of the show was back at the office with Ron, April and their hilarious negativity. Ann attempts to make conversation with them, failing time and time again. However, once she shares a gory medical story, she has them eating out the palms of her hands. Ron thanks her for the story, and calls her Jenny. He said, “Ann was getting a little chummy. When people get too chummy with me, I like to call them by the wrong name to let them know I don’t really care about them.”

In other news, if you don’t follow Aziz Ansari on Twitter or Tumblr, you’re missing out on the fan-art that is blowing up all over the internet. Ansari posted it, crediting illustrator Sam Spratt with the beautiful creation of Ron Swanson. It depicts Ron, in all his glory, with tattoos of his ex-wives, moustache chest-hair, and pounds of steak in the background.

As a parting gift, I leave you with this gif. If you have any questions, comments, or just want to talk about Parks and Rec, email mlkelle3@asu.edu!
