Bravo to the pedestrian bridge in Tempe that opened this week. The bridge, which allows people to cross from the Tempe Town Lake, had its grand opening Tuesday. Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman and residents jogged across the bridge at sunrise on Tuesday. While there is the Mill Avenue Bridge with all its pretty lights, it will be nice to have a pathway for pedestrians. The bridge also has a cooling system for the dam on Tempe Town Lake. Next time you are around the lake, take a jog, ride a back, or walk across the newest architectural gem in Tempe.

Boo to the ever-mounting student loan debt. The number of loans students take out every year is insane — so insane that the total dollar amount in student loans is expected to hit $1 trillion by the end of the year. No doubt a scary number, it is even more frightening that the number increases by $2,853.88 every second. So for all those loans you take out, make sure you spend the money wisely. It is even more pertinent to do so since jobs are harder to come by.

Bravo to Four Peaks for choosing Tempe as the location to open their second brewery. The new location, which will be near Broadway Road and Hardy Drive, will mainly be used to produce their flagship beers such as Kiltlifter and 8th Street Pale Ale. This extra facility will allow the brewery to produce 40,000 more barrels of beery annually, or 1.2 million gallons. Hopefully you are as ecstatic about it as we are. Two Four Peaks facilities in Tempe means epic craft beer are more readily available.

Boo to the exotic animals that were let loose and killed in Ohio this week. An Ohio man, Terry Thompson, operated an animal park out of his backyard and was often charged with animal cruelty. Prior to the release of these animals, Thompson had just been released from jail. He had not been booked on animal cruelty this time, rather breaking a gun law. The man committed suicide after releasing the animals. In the unfortunate event, 18 Bengal tigers, 17 lions, six Black Bears, three mountain lions, two grizzly bears, a wolf and a baboon were killed.

Bravo to the ASU football team for visiting in Phoenix Children’s Hospital this week. Quarterback Brock Osweiler and eight of his teammates talked with the five children as well as colored and played computer games. Though these men are practicing football constantly and attending classes, they still found time to visit children and put a smile on their faces. They are an inspiration to the campus community, and hopefully others will follow the excellent example they set.
