Broke's the New Black: ASU Model Citizen: Sisco Flores

Few people have ever come close to challenging my vast and ever-growing shoe collection but funny for me, one of them so happens to be a guy. Sisco Flores, 20, is a broadcast major at Walter Cronkite and has more kicks than I could keep up with. While working at Nike, Sisco has his temporary dream job considering he’s been collecting shoes since high school. From color to year to the type of plastic used and how its stability is affected, he knew it from memory. I was schooled.  For a closer look into the life of an avid shoe and sports fanatic (Mets, Miami, and Cardinals preferably), I sat down with him this week.

How would you describe the way you dress? I’d call it street wear with a blend of sports, but with style- casual, but not tomboy.

What are your major influences? I like to think of my style as a blend of pop culture, a blend of everything.  Music is huge for me.  A big influence is Kanye West who’s a fashionista of the pop world.

What are your favorite stores or clothing lines? Johnny Cupcakes, The Hundreds, Pennant Race Gear, or Orisue. For basic items like plain t-shirts I’ll go to Express or H&M.

What’s your ideal first date and what would you wear? I’m kind of a romantic so I like taking a girl to dinner and a movie.  It’s best when the movie is bad so we can laugh about it the whole time, or I’ll take her to a baseball game. I don’t like to overdress but I’d probably choose a Lacoste polo and jeans.

So why shoes? A friend of mine got me interested in them back in high school.  I bought Ken Griffey’s shoes when he was with the Mariners and I’ve been collecting them ever since. Look at me now, I own every color Air Force 1 ever made.

Most prized possession? My Nike Air Griffey Max 1’s. Like most of my new shoes, I don’t think I’ve even worn them yet. I don’t wear the shoes I buy for a few months because everybody else is rocking them so I like to wait.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I want to get my journalism degree but in the end use it towards sports management.

To stay as up to date as Sisco in the world of sneakers, he recommends following the blogs nicekicks.com and complex.com which are what he refers to as “Cosmo for guys.” Serious #stylepoints.
