Tempe Police reported the following incidents Monday:
- A 47-year-old man was arrested early in the morning on June 28 on the 1500 block of East Apache Boulevard after he was seen throwing a newspaper stand through the front window of a restaurant, police reported.
The man was found inside the establishment, Khai Hoan Restaurant, where he claimed to be helping a friend named “Mary,” according to a police report.
Police searched the restaurant but no one was found, police reported.
Items inside were moved and appeared to have been searched through, according to a report.
He was transported to Tempe City Jail on one count of third degree burglary, police reported.
- A 27-year-old Scottsdale man was arrested at midnight on June 27 after it was discovered that he had fired two rounds from a pistol in the air at the 1300 block of East Broadway Road, police reported.
The man fled the scene but later returned and was ordered out of his car at gunpoint, according to a police report.
The magazine from the gun fell to the ground as he exited the vehicle and the pistol was found in the center consol, police reported.
He admitted to firing the gun in the air but said it was in response to being shot at by an unknown man, according to a report.
Police searched the area but did not find the man or any shell casings. Witnesses also said the saw the one man shooting and no one else, police reported.
Police found one shell casing inside the man’s pistol and no other shell casings were found, according to a report.
He was transported to Tempe City Jail on one count of disorderly conduct for reckless discharge of a firearm, police reported.
- A 29-year-old Tempe man was arrested on the afternoon of June 25 after it was found that he was cruel to an animal while running near the 1100 block of East Broadway Road, police reported.
Witnesses called police to the location after a dog was seen laying in a parking lot without water, according to a police report.
A person attempted to get the dog water but the man refused and became verbally abusive, police reported.
The man was running with two dogs, one of which had collapsed and belonged to a friend, according to a report.
An officer at the scene saw the dog, which was an American Bulldog, lying on its side with heavy breathing. The dog’s tongue was hanging out, its ears were bright red and it was warm to the touch, police reported.
Officers poured two buckets of cold water on top of the dog in an attempt to cool it down, according to a report.
The dog was then taken to a local animal hospital where the emergency clinician measured the dog’s temperature to be 107 degrees and gave it a 30 to 40 percent chance of survival, police reported.
The owner of the dog was changing residences and gave it to the man to care for while he moved, according to a report.
The Tempe man was transported to Tempe City Jail on one count cruelty to animals, police reported.
