As this editorial is being written, Americans — particularly journalists — are mourning the loss of Glenn Beck’s television show on Fox News. His over-the-top personality and the way he relayed the “news” to the country nightly will be sorely “missed.”
An ode to this patriot is deserved in light of Wednesday’s news that his show will end, so we decided to recount some of the lasting moments that Beck has given this country. His viewpoints were particularly poignant and taught Americans a lot, particularly on the political positions of our president.
“This president I think has exposed himself as a guy over and over and over again who has a deep-seeded hatred for white people or the white culture. I don’t know what it is,” Beck once said on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace.
This kind of thoughtful contribution to our political discourse won’t be easy to replace. If only Beck were to stay on air longer, we might be able to find out why President Barack Obama chose Joe Biden, a white man, to be his vice president. Is it because Biden is a Marxist?
Beck constantly reminds us that our president is a socialist, and thank goodness for that as well. How could we forget that our president wants to ensure that this country is no longer a free-market capitalist society, but rather the next Soviet Union?
“Now, [Obama’s] ideas are brand new. I first heard your ideas about … 1848? I’m trying to think when did Karl Marx write that stuff down? You’ve got ideas that have unquestionably failed, and failed spectacularly every time they’ve been tried … Broken economy after broken economy, continent after continent, millions dead, I don’t know that they can be done right and I’m not willing to give it a try,” Beck said on his Aug. 4, 2010 show.
Perhaps what we will miss most is his contribution to the health care debate. According to Beck, when Obama administration officials are concerned that women can’t get the care they need, it is code for abortions, and when they talk about end of life care, it means “nite, nite, granny.”
These points are obviously spot-on. We are convinced that the Obama administration wants to increase the number of abortions and pull the plug on grandma, and only Beck has the knowledge and audience to spread the word.
Yes, we will dearly miss this “journalist.” His crying and chalkboarding always kept us company when producing the paper for you. There was something so revolutionary about the way told the “truth.” He has been an inspiration and taught us so much about history.
We learned about racism, socialism and death panels. But most of all, Glenn Beck, you taught us how to be an American — a crazy, crazy American.
