Soccer falls to UC Irvine, women's basketball wins


The ASU women's soccer team lost to UC Irvine 2-1 on Friday night in a first round NCAA Tournament matchup.

Freshman forward Devin Marshall scored ASU's only goal.

The ASU women's basketball team won its season opener over NAU 81-46 Friday night in Tempe. Senior guard Dymond Simon led the Sun Devils with 18 points while senior Becca Tobin and junior Kimberly Brandon each added 10 points.

The ASU men's swim and dive team topped California State Bakersfield on Friday 162-127 for its first win of the season.

The women's team, however, suffered its first loss of the season to No 6. UCLA 132-168.

The ASU women's volleyball team lost to No. 10 UCLA in Los Angeles on Friday 3-0. The team looks to keep its postseason hopes alive Saturday night against USC.

The ASU cross country team couldn't keep its season going Friday in Oregon, as it failed to qualify for the NCAA Championship meet.

In the NCAA West Regional, the Sun Devil men finished fifth behind Ben Engelhardt's 13th place finish. The women finished placed 13th overall and were paced by Lindsay Prescott's 37th place finish.
