Cy Young award winner. Staff ace with a nasty sinker and reliable arm. These things were once true of Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon Webb.

Now, two years later, as his contract is set to expire, he contributes very little to the organization. Webb has been hurt since Opening Day 2009 and continues to recover slowly — very slowly.

While contributing nothing on the mound for Arizona, Webb has collected millions of dollars the last two years. His eight million dollar option was exercised this offseason. Several months later, he is still yet to take the mound for Arizona.

The team paid eight million bucks for nothing. Now that is a bad investment.

Webb and his agent will probably assume that he deserves several million dollars again this offseason.

If that’s the case, then goodbye, Brandon Webb.

With no guarantees that he will return to his dominant form, and no certainty that he will be healthy in 2011, the D-Backs can’t afford to waste more money on him.

Webb should be giving the D-backs a refund for his lack of performance for two straight years.

Thanks for your past success Brandon, but at this point, you aren’t worth our money.
