Houston, we have no problem.
Look out Western Conference, the Rockets just got legit.
Sure, they dumped Carl Landry, a scrappy, Sixth Man of the Year candidate, but by severing ties with the oft-injured Tracy McGrady — who by the way, isn’t playing for them anyway — the Rockets secured Kevin Martin, Hilton Armstrong, Jordan Hill and Jared Jeffries in a three-team deal that included the Kings and Knicks.
While New Yorkers may be happy to have cleared up cap space for this summer’s “LeBron Sweepstakes,” I like what Houston has done with this move.
Jeffries is a player that will go to work for a hard-nosed coach like Rick Adelman. Hill is improving and Armstrong, well, he’s skinny, so at least he won’t take up to much room on the plane.
But the gem of the deal is Martin, the sharpshooter out of that college in Carolina — what? Oh, it was Western Carolina?
Anyway, the young guard is averaging 20 points per game and will fit right in with a run-and-gun roster that doesn’t have anyone taller than 6-foot-4. OK, that’s not true. But with Yao out, everyone else just looks so damn small.
