Police Beat


ASU Police reported the following incident Wednesday:

  • Between Sept. 24 and 27, an unknown person or persons broke into the car of a 26-year-old female graduate student, police reported.

    The car was parked in structure two on the Tempe campus. The person or persons stole the woman’s car stereo, according to the police report.

    The damages to the vehicle are estimated at $100, police reported.

Tempe Police reported the following incidents Wednesday:

  • A 28-year-old Mesa woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of shoplifting at a store inside the Arizona Mills Mall on the 5000 block of South Mill Avenue, police reported.

    Store security said the woman aroused their suspicion when they saw her carrying a shopping bag from a store not inside the mall, police reported.

    They saw her put several items from the store inside her bag and attempt to leave the store without paying, according to the report.

    The woman was booked into Tempe City Jail and held to see a judge, police reported.

  • A 20-year-old Mesa man was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia on the 3300 block of South Rural Road early Tuesday morning, police reported.

    During a routine traffic stop, the officer reportedly smelled marijuana in the car, and the man admitted he had a lit marijuana cigarette in the front seat, according to the report.

    After the man consented to a search, the officer found a ceramic pipe with marijuana residue, a usable quantity of marijuana and a bottle of prescription pills, which the man admitted belonged to his mother, police reported.

    The man was booked into Tempe City Jail and released pending charges, according to a report.

  • A 35-year-old Phoenix woman was arrested Tuesday morning on suspicion of possession of narcotics on the 6000 block of East Broadway Road, police reported.

    During a routine traffic stop, the woman gave the officer permission to search her vehicle, where he found a bottle of prescription pills without a prescription, according to a police report.

    After the arrest, the officer made further searches that revealed a crack pipe in her sweatshirt and a semi-automatic firearm in her car, according to the report.

    The woman was booked into Tempe City Jail and released pending charges, police reported.
