Running Mates: Ryan Vigneux (Policy) and Alicia Shebel (Services)

Why are you running for office?

We are running for office because we want to focus student government more on the needs and desires of the students by improving and strengthening our Sun Devil community at ASU. We hope to accomplish this dream through four core areas: student engagement, collaboration, advocacy and accountability.

What experiences qualify you for this position?

As a sophomore, I have had the privilege of being involved with some of the greatest organizations on campus. I have grown incredibly as an individual through several different leadership positions.

Most specifically, my involvement with the Residence Hall Association as Hassayampa Hall Council President, Undergraduate Student Government as the Arizona student-affairs director and a board member, and Legislative Affairs Committee chair for the Arizona Students’ Association has prepared me to successfully represent the undergraduate students at ASU.

Through these positions I have handled considerable amounts of responsibility, effectively delegated and continually lead by example to those around me. My involvement across campus and just as an average student at ASU has prepared me to be the best person to represent the undergraduate students at ASU.

What do you think is the most important issue of the election?

The most important issue in this election is that each of the candidates remains focused on the students, maintains approachability and ensures that students know they are being represented by other students.

The biggest complaint we hear is that students feel disconnected from their student government.

We want to students to know that if elected, their student government is going to be 100 percent focused on them.

Why should ASU students elect you?

Sun Devils should choose to support my campaign because they identify with my platform and see proactive solutions to their everyday problems, as well as innovative ideas to help deliver ASU to new heights.

What is the No. 1 change you want to see on campus?

We are looking forward to seeing a tremendous growth in the pride that students have for attending ASU. We believe that this is fundamental for having a rewarding college experience.

This will be seen by having more students involved in campus life, ensuring that no student feels like they’re “just a number,” getting more students involved in the discussion about issues that impact them and providing services and resources that cultivate success within the student body.

How does the University’s current economic state affect your plans if elected?

The current economic state dramatically impacts our plans if elected.

We will have to develop a new way of looking at how we’re going to allocate student-fee money, draft tuition proposals and campaigns, as well as any possible legislation for more higher-education funding at the statewide level.

With that being said, we strongly believe that there is truly only room for ASU to grow. By focusing on having the best and most proactive vision for looking at the financial issues impacting the University and by enhancing student engagement, we will have more students involved in the discussion of the policies impacting them and therefore get ASU back on track.
