Downtown Programming and Activities Board is inviting students to come enjoy a murder mystery dinner Thursday, where they will speculate who the murderer is among them.
The event will start Thursday at the Wells Fargo Student center at 7:30 p.m. and is expected to last about two hours, said Rebecca Herrera, executive director of PAB and nonprofit leadership and management sophomore.
Participating students signed up to play characters for the Murder in Hollywood theme night. The characters range from aspiring actresses, to directors and their wives.
A dinner of salad, lasagna, desert and mocktails will be served.
“We’re kind of making a statement about not drinking and driving,” PAB board member and nursing freshman Victoria Bain said.
Bain will not be playing a character because she wanted to leave spots open for non-PAB members. However, she will be attending as a spectator, which is encouraged. Bain said she would dress up a little bit, although not as much as she expects the characters might.
“The dinner party is supposed to be [a Hollywood] A-list after-after party, so the characters are really encouraged to get into it to be more fun,” Bain said.
Characters and spectators will be given more information upon arrival, and the character who is the murderer will be informed of his or her role. Characters will also be provided with fake money to bribe other characters for clues.
Guests and spectators will dine and then be given the opportunity to mingle. Eventually the lights will go off and one of the characters will be murdered.
“People can really have fun with it and really get into it,” Herrera said. “It’s not often you can get really dressed up unless you’re going to a job interview or something.”
This is PAB’s second year hosting a murder-mystery dinner.
“The dinner last year was a lot of fun and even people who weren’t characters and just were spectators said that they had a really good time,” Herrera said.
Students are encouraged to RSVP on the Mystery Dinner Facebook event page or at the Wells Fargo Student Center so that PAB can provide enough food.
At the end of the night, everyone present will be invited to cast a vote and say who they believe the killer was. The killer and the motive will then be revealed.
“It will definitely be a good experience for everyone involved,” Herrera said.
