Track and field get ready for Washington

The Sun Devil Track and Field team sent a few of its members up to Flagstaff on Friday for the NAU Tune-Up.

The meet was the last chance for ASU to work out a few kinks and give the majority of the team a little rest before the MPSF Championships in Seattle on Friday and Saturday.

Washington will host the final meet before the Sun Devils head to College Station, Texas to attempt to defend their national titles.

In Flagstaff, however, ASU got another win in the long jump from senior Stephanie Garnett with a jump of 6.23 meters, which provisionally qualified her for the national meet.

The majority of the athletes that competed for the Sun Devils were pole vaulters.

Freshman Cara Carpenter and junior Lisa Navarro finished fourth and sixth respectively.

Junior Joe Fazio took third for the men, clearing 4.81 meters in the finals, while junior Corey Phallen and freshman Alexander Wentz finished fifth and sixth respectively.

Freshman Duggan Grant was not able to clear any height in the pole vault, but earned fourth place honors in the high jump clearing 1.78 meters.
