Tempe Police reported the following incidents Thursday:

  • A 21-year-old and his 20-year-old girlfriend, both Phoenix residents, were arrested early Monday morning on suspicion of marijuana possession, according to police reports.

The couple, driving with two children in the backseat, were stopped at the intersection of South 48th Street and West Baseline Road for a broken taillight, police reported.

The officer smelled marijuana and conducted a search of the car, according to the report. He found two cigars filled with marijuana and arrested the two adult passengers, who were booked into Tempe City Jail and released pending charges, police reported.

  • A 22-year-old Tempe man was arrested late Monday night at his home for reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence and possession of marijuana, police reported.

The man was trying to unload his .40 Smith and Wesson pistol in the bedroom of his third-story apartment on the 200 block of East Southern Avenue, police reported, when the gun discharged. The bullet went through the floor of his room and struck the pillow of a bed where two people were sleeping in the apartment below, according to police.

After the incident, the man tried to hide the evidence by throwing the spent shell casing into a dumpster on the ground floor, according to police. When officers arrived at his apartment, they found the gun and two bottles, one containing oxycodone and one containing marijuana, police reported.

The man was booked into Tempe City Jail and held to see a judge, according to police.
